My summer sunscreen routine is tried and true! I have been using the tinted Elta MD on my skin for years and LOVE it! It’s a broad-spectrum SPF 46 for sensitive, acne-prone skin and it’s oil free. I tend to breakout during the summer, especially when using a heavy sunscreen but not with Elta MD. It’s lightweight but still strong enough to block off all of those harmful rays. (They make various products so if you have dry skin, check out this product).
On beach/pool days when I know I am going to be in the sun most of the day, I always apply my sunscreen before I leave the house and the reapply as needed. On days where I am going to be out and about in the sun, I apply a dab of moisturizer under my makeup to assure I have some extra coverage and prevent my skin to sun exposure.
During the winter, I am a super fan of Oil of Olay’s moisturizer with SPF 15. I use this daily under my makeup. It’s oil free, fragrance free and you can buy it just about anywhere. My dermatologist recommended Oil of Olay to me when I was in high school and I haven’t turned back yet!
For beach days I use the ELTA MD and I love the Neutrogena SPF spray. It’s a dry spray, no grease, no mess. It’s lightweight and easy to use.
And of course, the most important piece of the sunscreen puzzle is a great sun hat! I am prone to pigmentation, the moment my face sees the sun, I get blotchy. The only way to really avoid this, even while wearing sunscreen, is to wear a hat.
Summer is here and I know that most of our plans are not what we expected but that’s OK. Hit the park, sit in the yard or garden and no matter where you are, as long as the sun is shining, I guarantee you will need sunscreen!
